This extra boost achieves 73% of the goal to replace the aging play area.
The Friends of Wacouta Commons Park are doing a happy dance this month with the news of a new $10,000 challenge gift to the playground project from a local resident. Thanks to grants from the Saint Paul Neighborhood STAR Program, the Hardenbergh and Saint Paul Foundations, the project is getting close to the construction phase.
This park is the “backyard” of the neighborhood, which has evolved into an area of high population density and diversity. Of the immediate community of 2,400 households, 70.3% of housing units are rented. and 32% of residents are of color – often families with young children who are the biggest users of the playground in addition to the Water Lily Montessori School and the Fahya Hi Day Care Center.
If you understand the value of a safe, fun place for families to grow up in this community, please make a gift today to help match the $10,000 challenge (put Wacouta Commons in the “message” field of the donation form).
