Linwood Park Gets Reimagined

The long-awaited transformation of Linwood Park is under way. Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department, along with neighborhood partners, has officially kicked off construction on sweeping set improvements at Linwood Park and Recreation Center. The project spans playground upgrades, accessibility enhancements, new sports courts, re-grading and landscaping works, and more.

Key Funding Milestone

At its August 20, 2025 meeting, the Saint Paul City Council adopted Resolution PH 25-163, authorizing a budget amendment to add $105,242.36 from Parkland Dedication funds to the Linwood Park Improvements project. This allocation contributes toward a larger project budget of approximately $2 million, signaling the city’s commitment to bringing the nearly three-decade-old park up to modern standards.

What’s Planned: From Concept to Construction

Community-led visioning has paved the way for this revitalization. The Summit Hill Association (SHA) partnered with Parks & Rec under the “Reimagine Linwood” initiative, gathering resident input through open houses, surveys and online forums.

Key elements include:

  • A new, accessible play area with multi-age equipment and inclusive surfacing
  • An accessible route from the St. Clair Avenue sidewalk down to the play area and lower fields,
  • Pickleball courts, a refreshed full-court basketball facility, and a multi-use irrigated turf field.
  • A terraced seating area, enhanced landscaping including tree planting, benches, bike racks and picnic tables.
  • Stormwater management upgrades integrated into the site plan to improve sustainability and functionality.

With funding now secured and design finalized, Linwood Park is moving from vision to shovel-in-the-ground. The result promises a revitalized, accessible, multi-generational destination for the community.
