Taylor Park Play Area

Neighborhoods: Mississippi National River Area

Amount Needed: $250,000

Taylor Park is in the Mississippi National River Area. A small neighborhood park east of Pig’s Eye Lake, Taylor Park offers visitors an open green space perfect for pick-up games, a playground, and picnic tables for families to gather around. Highwood Preserve is a short walk to the south. The well-used playground is outdated and essential for the hundreds of children who call this park home. More than 57% of neighbors are people of color, more than 28% live below the poverty level.

The new playground is part of the Conservancy’s EQUAL PLAY SAINT PAUL initiative to increase access to great play spaces, courts, fields, rec and nature programs in high need neighborhoods.

For this project, we are working with KABOOM!, a national playspace creator whose mission is to end play space inequity for good. Kaboom!’s unique Playspace Inequity Prioritization Index (PIPI) combined 21 publicly available data points into a score for every census tract in Saint Paul. This analysis helped underscores why Taylor Park is next on the list!
